Yesterday evening, the Hetzler Foundation, together with Mr. Rutger Hetzler, Henning Wagner, and Björn Gerlach, had the privilege of participating in an impressive panel discussion at the conclusion of an exhibition on addiction prevention in Erfurt organized by the Welt der Versuchungen Foundation, which we supported.
To round off the exhibition “Only Good Vibes?”, we also had the opportunity to take part in a very special guided tour with Dr Susanne Rockweiler, who impressively demonstrated how important it is to communicate prevention not only through facts, but also through emotions, dialogue, and personal approaches. In a visionary world, she said, it should be possible to talk openly and naturally about addiction.
The subsequent panel discussion with Prof Dr Hendrick Streeck, moderated by Prof Dr Rainer Spanagel, was a controversial and inspiring evening. Among other things, the discussion focused on the importance of early intervention, strengthening personal responsibility, the need for contemporary drug strategies, and the question of how evidence-based prevention can find its way into schools. Historical and social perspectives on intoxication and regulation were also critically examined.
It became particularly clear that we can only achieve effective prevention if many actors work together. Parents, pediatricians, teachers, caregivers, science, and society must take joint responsibility.
We would like to express our sincere thanks for this powerful exhibition on addiction prevention and for an evening full of insightful ideas, open discussions, and new inspiration. We very much hope that this exhibition has reached and will continue to reach many people in order to have a lasting impact.
